Columbia (WLTX) -- A University of South Carolina baseball player was arrested Saturday night in 5 Points.

Columbia Police say 21-year-old Casey Matthew Rihn was arrested outside of Parrothead's on Harden Street. He has been charged with drinking in public, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

The arrest came just hours after the Gamecocks' regular season finale win over Georgia.

Authorities say Rihn began beating a police car, asking for a ride. After the officer began talking with Rihn, he says noticed Rihn was intoxicated.

According to officers, Rihn attempted to run from police and resist arrest, but officers were able to handcuff him. Authorities say he resisted arrest multiple times.

Authorities say Richland County EMS was called out to the scene to examine's Rihn head and face, which was injured during the struggle. He then became belligerent with EMTs as they were checking him out, officials say.

Rihn remains behind bars at the Richland County Jail, where a personal recognizance bond has been issued.

Rihn, a junior college transfer, plays infield for the Gamecocks. He played in 28 games this season, starting in 8 of them.

According to USC baseball spokesperson Andrew Kittick, head coach Ray Tanner is aware of the situation but will not make a decision concerning Rihn's status until he has gathered all of the pertinent information.
