Deputies: Man Who Assaulted, Kidnapped Woman Arrested

COLUMBIA (WLTX) -- The man wanted for allegedly kidnapping and beating a Columbia woman has been arrested.

Richland County Deputies say they arrested 33-year-old Brian Johnson, after a Crimestoppers tip said that he was hiding out in the town of Bethune in Kershaw County.

The arrest marks the end of a month-long search for Johnson, who investigators say he got into a fight with his friend, while they were dropping off her child at school.

Deputies say Johnson pulled the woman's hair when she tried to exit the car, forcing her and her 8-year-old son to stay in the vehcile then drove around Northeast Columbia, before abandoning the vehicle, with the victims still inside.

The alleged victim later told WLTX that Johnson had been abusive for months.

Johnson is charged with assault, armed robbery, and kidnapping.
