Columbia, SC (WLTX)--Six Midlands high schools have been named the top 15-hundred best high schools in america according to newsweek magazine. Newsweek's formula ranks schools according to a ratio that looks at the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and similar college-credit tests taken by all students at the school and then divides that by the number of graduating seniors from the previous year. Jay Mathews, a Washington Post staff writer and Newsweek contributing editor, developed the formula more than 10 years ago. Dutch Fork High is listed at number 314, AC Flora High comes in at 854. Dreher High comes in at number 913 and Spring Valley High is listed at 960. Irmo High comes in at 1041 and Richland Northeast ranks 1138. 16 other schools statewide also made the cut.
