Man Accused of Killing His Brother-in-Law

Lexington County (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies say a fight between family members led to a killing.

Calvin Corbett, 56, has been charged with murder and use of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

According to deputies, the situation took place around 7:30 a.m. Friday on Rikard Drive in Gilbert.

According to deputies, Calvin's brother, Willy Corbett, and the victim, 51-year-old Alphonzo Carter, got into an argument. Investigators say Calvin stepped in between the two, but was hit by Carter with an unknown object.

Officers say Calvin then got a .22 caliber gun from a room in the home and shot Carter twice in the abdomen. Officers say Willie then put the weapon away and told his brother to run.

Willie is charged with accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence.

After the shooting, Carter went to a neighbor's home for help. Carter was taken to Palmetto Richland were he later died.
