Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A Lexington County man is being treated by doctors after he was bitten by a rabid bat, Department of Health and Environmental Control officials say. Adam Myrick of DHEC says the man was trying to get rid of bats from his Harbison home when one bit him. The bat tested positive for rabies Friday. DHEC says the man is receiving preventive treatment to keep the virus from reaching his brain and becoming fatal. This is Lexington County's seventh confirmed rabid animal in 2009. Another bat and five raccoons tested positive for rabies earlier in the year.
