Library's Summer Reading Program Called "Success"

Columbia (WLTX) -- Officials at the Richland County Public Library say more than 31,000 young people and adults participated in a Summer Reading Club this summer at the library.

Organizers say 22,000 children 12 and younger and 2,600 teens participated in the "Get Real, Get Reading (Get Stuff)" program. They say more than 6,700 adults participated in the "Read & Relax" reading club.

According to a Monday news release, 22 teens and adults were rewarded with prizes, with adults winning gift certificates to Books-A-Million and a "Friends of RCPL" book bag and teens winning Barnes and Noble gift certificates.

The programs' two biggest winners, Seirra Hamilton for the teen program and Joyce Lee Shealy each won an MP4 player provided by Geiger O'Cain Advertising.
