Camden, SC (WLTX)-- The ribbon has been cut and the South Carolina Equine Park in Camden is open and ready for business.
The new facility in this major league horse community has room for 262 horses and one horse is ponying up to the park and getting ready for upcoming shows.
Meet Taconic, described by his trainer as an"ex-racehorse, he did come off the track about a year and a half ago."
He likes to horse around, but he's not just hitting the hay.
"We do have plans of course that he's going to be an excellent show horse," professional horse trainer Alex Potter says. "We just have to work on getting his mind and body to work together."
A feat Potter says Taconic can conquer here, at the new equine park in Camden.
"He is in the making and to be in an environment such as this where you don't have 500, 400, 600 horses or more, actually gives him a better chance to kind of concentrate not be too intimidated by too much commotion and gives him a chance to think," Potter explains.
Today, Taconic is trotting his way through the rings and leaping over lifts with ease.
"Absolutely no tenseness, no nervousness, no quivering, that you can feel," Potter says.
Taconic is leaving dust in his wake and a smile on his trainer's face.
"Once you get on, you know what they say about horses, don't you? They bite up front, kick behind, and very uncomfortable in the middle but once you're here, ohhh this is the best place to be," Potter says.
Taconic's strut seems to say, the new park isn't so bad, either.
