Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Cave Funeral Services, Inc. in Allendale has closed its doors after employees cut the legs off of a corpse, and Consumer Affairs officials say some former customers should have their preneed contracts transferred.
Officials with the SC Department of Consumer Affairs say customers who signed a preneed funeral contract with Cave should contact the SCDCA to have their contract transferred to a licensed provider.
Cave's license was revoked on July 15, and consumer affairs officials have been working to alert all former customers that the company is no longer in operation.
The funeral home came under fire after employees cut the legs of the corpse of 6-foot-7 James Hines in 2004.
If you had a contract with the funeral home and would like to transfer it, you are urged to call the Public Information Division of the SCDCA at 803.734.4296 or toll-free at 1.800.922.1594.
