(Columbia) - City of Columbia Deputy Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins met with Benedict College President Dr. David Swinton about fire code violations in their dorms on Monday.
Jenkins told News19 that while there were some things found that weren't up to code, the school administration is working to correct them and is fully cooperating with fire officials. He also said the violations aren't bad enough to warrant evacuation students or issuing citations.
You may remember that more than 200 students were evacuated from the Travelodge hotel that had been turned into a dorm in September. Officials said the building on Horseshoe Drive didn't have a sprinkler system and had exposed wiring on electrical outlets.
Jenkins said the school has put a lot of money into making sure the buildings meet fire code.
