Anderson, SC (AP) -- A South Carolina man has been convicted of stabbing and killing his pregnant girlfriend three years ago.

The Anderson Independent-Mail reported that Christopher Ellis was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without parole.

An Anderson County jury of six men and six women took a little more than an hour to find Ellis guilty of the deaths of Erica Olson and her unborn child. Prosecutors say Olson was stabbed more than 25 times.

Ellis also was also convicted of possessing a weapon during a violent crime.

Police were called to an apartment on Oct. 23, 2006, after dispatchers received a 911 hang-up call and heard a woman screaming.

Ellis was the only defense witness and he said Olson attacked him while he slept in a recliner because he was cheating on her.
