Marcus McMorris

(WLTX) - Marcus McMorris is a standout running back and linebacker on the Newberry football team. He has earned All-Region honors the past two years and was named the Bulldog's MVP last year as a junior. Marcus has also earned 3 varsity letters in baseball, 2 letters in basketball and he was named All-State in track last season.

Long-time Newberry football coach Sam Baird says Marcus "is a tremendous leader for us. He's one of those you never have to worry about, hard worker, always gives 100% and the others follow his lead." Baird goes on to say "what sets him apart is the work he does in the classroom. All the teachers just love him to death. He does a great job in the hallways, the cafeteria, every where you see him he's just a model citizen."

Marcus says he is always willing to help others who want help he understands his role as a student leader. "Even when I don't think anyone's watching I try to make myself believe someone is watching, so I don't mess up or do the wrong thing and lead someone to do something they shouldn't."

Marcus also represented Newberry at Palmetto Boy's State. An AP and Honors student, he was a Junior Marshall and serves in student government. Marcus is also Beta Club vice president and ranks 13th in the senior class with a 4.48 GPA.

Marcus says he will major in electrical engineering and continue his football career in college and Newberry College has offered him a scholarship. He is also hearing from Furman and Wofford.
