Lexington County (WLTX) -- Authorities say the death of a 20-year-old Gilbert man who was found lying on the side of Old Wire Road near West Columbia Sunday was a homicide.
Coroner Harry Harman said James Lybrand, III died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Sheriff James Metts says a woman called 911 at 5 a.m. Sunday to report Lybrand's body lying on Old Wire Road, off of Charleston Highway.
Deputies are still investigating what led up to Lybrand's death.
"It certainly could have been drug-related , could be gang-related there are different theories, this individual has been in a lot of trouble over his young life so it could be related to a lot of different things we're looking at the whole circle of events right now and motives that could take place in this situation but the main thing we're concerned about is finding out who was involved in the killing, whether it was one individual or several individuals and get them behind bars where they belong," Sheriff Metts says.
