Atlantic Beach, SC (AP) -- Officials in a troubled South Carolina beach town are meeting for the first time since their mayor was indicted on a hit-and-run charge and suspended from her job.

The Florence Morning News reports that Atlantic Beach is holding its first general sessions meeting Monday since Retha Pierce was suspended Friday by Gov. Mark Sanford.

An Horry County grand jury indicted Pierce on Thursday for an April hit-and-run charge. She also faces charges in separate cases including resisting arrest, public disorderly conduct and drunken driving.

Mayor Pro Tem Charlene Taylor is presiding over Monday's meeting.
