CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say a South Carolina man is facing a possible 30-year prison sentence after admitting to shooting a law enforcement officer.

Authorities say 30-year-old Terrell Mallard pleaded guilty to attempting to kill a federal officer and other charges Tuesday.

Investigators say Mallard was hiding in a locked bathroom in a Charleston area home in February when federal and local officers came to arrest him on a bank robbery warrant.

Authorities say Mallard started shooting when the door was knocked down, striking a federal officer. Other officers fired back, wounding Mallard.

Prosecutors say Mallard agreed to the guilty plea in exchange for a 30-year sentence that will have to be approved by a judge at a later date.
