Columbia Man Accused of Holding Workers Hostage with Knife

FORT COLLINS, Colorado (KUSA, WLTX) - The Colorado State Patrol says a South Carolina man held two workers hostage at knifepoint at a port of entry on Tuesday night.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday near the northbound port of entry at Fort Collins, Colorado.

Fort Collins police identified the man as 49-year-old Samuel Ervin Brown of Columbia, South Carolina.

Police say Brown held two Colorado state employees hostage at the weigh station, which is on Interstate 25. According to officers, the employees had just issued Brown a citation and instructed Brown to park his truck until 7:00 a.m.

State Patrol says the incident lasted around seven minutes and the man was taken into custody with the help of Fort Collins Police around 9:40 p.m.

No one was injured.

Brown faces two charges of first-degree kidnapping.
