Newberry County, SC (WLTX) -- Newberry County deputies are partnering with the Newberry Community Choir and The Miss Merry Christmas Pageant this holiday season to help provide toys to needy children.

"Difficult financial times are making many prepare for the holidays earlier than ever before," said Newberry Sheriff Lee Foster in a Friday news release.

Foster says his deputies are sensitive to the current economic conditions and are working to provide a happy holiday season for children who may not get a chance for presents this December.

Those interested in donating a new, unwrapped toy or a financial contribution can drop off their gift at the Newberry County Sheriff's Office at 521 Wilson Road in Newberry from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If participants need a deputy to pick up their gift, they are urged to call the department at (803) 321-2211 or directly email Foster at lfoster@newberrycounty.net to schedule a deputy to stop by to pick up your donation.

"It is apparent that this will likely be one of the most difficult holiday seasons ever for many Newberry County families," Foster said, "Many of whom have never found themselves in this situation before."

"We continue to meet needs of the community for law enforcement and as a partner in the community; however, it was extremely close last year and it appears that this year's demand will be even higher," Foster said, "We will not be able to accomplish this without the kindness and support of the people of Newberry County."
