Another Shooting in Hard Hit South Carolina Town

WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) -- Fear increased for folks in Walterboro Saturday as another shooting marked the third in a number of days.

Colleton County deputies say it happened at a gas station and now deputies are searching for a woman's boyfriend who they say fired multiple shots at her car as she drove away.

Deputies say the girlfriend was stopped at a gas station near Highway 64 when the boyfriend shot into the back of her Cadillac but she was not hit.

The town was already on high alert after three people were killed Monday night in a drive-by shooting and two others were shot and wounded Wednesday several blocks away.  Eight others were wounded.

The State Law Enforcement Division says its agents are patrolling Walterboro through the weekend on the heels of the shootings.

SLED Chief Reggie Lloyd and Governor Mark Sanford visited the community on Friday.

Sanford says he was there to listen and lend support. Officials say the SLED presence will be re-evaluated Monday. They have not ruled out gang activity.

Lloyd says the increased police presence was evident with a quiet night Thursday.
