SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Three former officials in a South Carolina county plagued by scandal are expected in court to face federal charges.
Former Union County supervisor Donald Betenbaugh and tax assessor Willie E. Randall, Jr., are scheduled to be in federal court in Spartanburg on Thursday.
Prosecutors say the men face charges ranging from accepting $50,000 in kickbacks to allowing Randall's office to be used to store cocaine. Former Sheriff Howard Wells is also expected in court on witness tampering charges.
The town's former mayor and zoning administrator are serving federal prison sentences in separate cases. Former Union County court clerk Brad Morris was charged Wednesday with embezzling more than $200,000 in public funds.
