Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police have announced an arrest in the killing of a man at the Colonial Village Apartment complex last week.
Officers say 44-year-old Joseph David Branch has been charged with murder in the death of 58-year-old William Belton.
Branch was arrested Thursday afternoon without incident, according to police.
Belton was found dead on Thursday, November 12 at the apartment complex located on 3700 West Avenue in Columbia.
Investigators determined Belton had been hit on the head.
Officers say they were dispatched to the scene about 4:30 p.m. that day and found the front door to the victim's home open. The victim was found without signs of life.
As of Thursday afternoon, Branch was being held at the Richland County Detention Center.
