Sumter, SC (WLTX) - The Sumter toddler found wandering alone on a street back in October will remain in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

A family court judge decided on Thursday that is best for 16-month-old Assad Toney.

Sumter police say on October 22nd the toddler was found alone and crying in the yard of a Branch Street home. A neighbor stopped him and called 9-1-1. Previous Coverage: Toddler Left in Sumter Neighborhood

Police say his parents 25-year-old Taccara King and 35-year- old John Toney got into an argument. During the disagreement, officers say King drove off, leaving the baby in the street. Police say instead of taking custody of the child, John Toney left the boy too.

Both are charged with unlawful neglect of a child and are out on bond.
