Police: Columbia Murder Case from 2000 Solved

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police say they have solved a cold case that dates back eight years.

Kevin Jermaine Mercer, 32, has been named a suspect in the death of Allon Tory Small.

Small was found shot outside his unit at the Brook Pines Apartments on March 12, 2000 around 1:30 a.m. Small was taken to the hospital where he died two days later.

Investigators have determined that Mercer shot Small. The motive for the shooting has not been released.

Mercer is currently on death row at the Lieber Correctional Institution for a 2002 homicide in Lexington County. Because of that, Cold Case Investigators met with Small's family to tell them that they'd found his killer, but that the case would be cleared without prosecution.

As always, anyone with information about unsolved crimes  should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, or e-mail a tip in to Crimestoppers of the Midlands . You can also text information in by texting "TIPSC" plus your message to CRIMES (274637). Either way you choose, your identity will remain anonymous, and you could be eligible for a cash reward.
