Gun in School: 2 Suspended, Facing Expulsion

Bishopville, SC (WLTX) -- Two Lee Central Middle School students, who were found with a couple of guns at school, have been suspended and are facing expulsion, according to district officials.

Dr. Cleo Richardson, Superintendent of Lee County Schools, told News 19 that the incident happened about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lee Central Middle School in Bishopville.

Richardson says students reported to administrators that another student had a gun on the school bus. Acting on that tip, staff members then checked the student's backpack and reportedly found two pellet guns and ammunition. Authorities were called and took two students into custody in connection with the incident. The ages and grade levels of the students involved were not immediately clear.

Richardson says the school was placed on lockdown, until the guns were secured. That lockdown has since been lifted. No one was hurt.
