
Orangeburg County, SC (WLTX) - The Highway Patrol is investigating after one person died following a major accident Thanksgiving night in Orangeburg County.
Officials say the incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. on I-95 near mile marker 99 when the driver of a 1997 Ford hit the bridge and stopped in the middle of the road.
Then, a 2004 Land Rover, driven by Sanders Cullen of Greenville, SC, struck the Ford and a Chrysler four-door driven by Kenrick McCoy of North Charleston.
Minutes later, Jerry Shaw of Van Cleave, Mississippi swerved to avoid the second collision. His 18-wheeler struck the Ford, then hit and killed the driver of the Ford, who was standing on the side of the road.
Authorities have not released the name of the driver of the Ford.
There were also four passengers in the Land Rover. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
