New York (WLTX) -- Forbes.com released their list of the top 100 cities in the United States that have weathered the current economic storm better than others, and the Capital City was listed at No. 35.
Taking the top spot was Omaha, NE for its lowest unemployment rate of 5 percent and relatively low home foreclosure rate. Despite South Carolina's staggering 12.1 percent unemployment rate, Columbia managed to stroll in just shy of the top third of the ranked cities.
Each area was ranked by their GMP (a number that measures the size of the city's economy), unemployment rank, home price rank, foreclosure rank, and sales rate rank. The Capital City's strongest category was easily the price of homes, pulling the seventh spot on the list.
Other nearby areas that made the list included the Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord area of North Carolina and northern South Carolina ranked at No. 54, Greenville-Mauldin-Easley at 66, and Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville at 75. View the full list at Forbes' website.
