Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Food Lion officials said Friday that two South Carolina stores, one of which is in the Midlands, would close by Feb. 19 after they were each named as "underperforming stores."
The stores are located at 6169 St. Andrews Road in Irmo and Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. They join 13 others nationally, according to spokeswoman Christy Phillips-Brown.
Phillips-Brown told reporters that each store currently employs about 35 to 45 people who will be offered the opportunity to apply for open positions at other Food Lion locations. Others will be offered severance packages, Phillips-Brown said.
Customers in the Midlands and Pee Dee will still be able to visit any of the 33 locations of the store, including the newest location, a "green store" on Hard Scrabble Road in Northeast Richland County. Previous Coverage: Food Lion Breaking Ground on Going Green
