Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The American Heart Association is endorsing Nintendo's popular Wii products.

In the Midlands, a group of senior citizens participated in a Wii tournament like you have never seen.

Groups of adults at five Lutheran Homes Retirement Communities participated in a Nintendo Wii bowling tournament Tuesday.

"People think that when you get to be over 55, you're going to sit around in a rocking chair," says 74-year-old Tom Culberson. "Nahhhhh, we're always gonna be doing something."

Teams like the Holy Rollers, the Pinheads, and the Gators picked up their Wii controllers for a friendly competition at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Downtown Columbia.

Organizers like Cindy Curtis say it's a great way to get seniors off the couch and exercising. "They actually have to stand up, move their arms, and move around." Curtis says, "It's great."

Recently, the American Heart Association endorsed Nintendo's popular Wii products. The folks at Lutheran Homes say Nintendo Wii has been one of the best motivators to keep their residents active and living a healthy lifestyle.

Culberson says he'll keep playing the Wii and long as he's able. "Hey, everybody's gotta enjoy this we're just having fun".
