Columbia, SC (WLTX) --

The Morning Show continues it's month long look at diet success
stories here in the Midlands with Tyler Weeks.Tyler has been featured
on CNN for his inspirational blog 344pounds.com. In his blog Tyler has
taken readers on his weight loss journey- where he has lost over
100 pounds in the last year.

How did he do it? Along with exercise he says calorie counting was his
secret weapon. "It makes you accountable," says Weeks.

Tyler says a good way to start, is by using an online calculator to
determine how many calories you need to eat for your age, height, and
weight in order to lose the amount of pounds you want. Here is an example
of a calculator:

Once you have determined how many calories you need, start a journal.
In your journal write down everything you eat and drink during the day
along with how many calories were in each item you consumed.
Make sure you eat the amount of calories determined by the calculator
in order to lose the weight you want.

If calories are not listed on the package of what you're eating Tyler says
it's easy to find out online. According to Weeks- just google it!
For example, if you ate a hotdog at a stand, go to google, and type
in "hot dog and calories"- this should bring up numerous sites that
have the caloric information.

Tyler says he now keeps a running tally in his head for
calories, "but for the first 6 months or so of my weight loss journey
I tracked calories through-mail -- I keep a draft e-mail going and
updated it throughout the day."

He adds, "The important thing is to record EVERYTHING" -snacks
before dinner, extra helpings, drinks (serving sizes of 8oz are small!), etc.

Here's a breakdown of sample calories for a recent day:

7 AM: 3 eggs, scrambled, with whole wheat toast
(butter/jelly) and two slices of bacon - 460 cals

10 AM: banana - 110 cals

12 PM: turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese,
little bit of mayo and a handful of bbq chips - 680 cals

3 PM: serving of beef jerky - 80 cals

6 PM: handful of lemon pepper rotisserie chicken, baked potato
 w/ butter, green beans = 650 cals

total cals - 1,980
