Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- With the heat breaking records today, being outside for any extended period of time is serious business. For those who have to work outside it's dangerous.
News 19 is On Your Side today with The App of The Day, the OSHA Heat Safety Tool.
If you've got plans to spend any time outside you need to keep yourself and the family safe.
The U.S. Department of Labor has developed an app that tells you what the heat index is wherever you are.
It works two ways - either you can let it detect where you are and it'll pull in the latest temperature and humidity info, or if you know those numbers you can enter them yourself.
It'll calculate how hot that real feel temp is, and they provide you with info on how you can identify the signs of heat illnesses like heat stroke and heat exhaustion, and more importantly how to treat it.
The OSHA Heat Safety Tool App is free to download on the Android and on iPhones, and they have it available in both English and Spanish languages.
I'll post the links for you in the tech section at wltx dot com.
