Emergency Repairs Mean Delays on I-85 in Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Officials are warning there could be long delays on Interstate 85 south near Spartanburg as emergency repairs are made on broken concrete.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation says workers closed the right lane around the state Highway 9 exit at mile marker 74 on Friday afternoon because several concrete slabs are broken.

The DOT says repairs will begin immediately, and two of the three lanes of I-85 south in the area will be closed at night. They hope to have the lanes fixed by the middle of April.

About 65,000 cars pass through that stretch of I-85 every day.

The DOT says Business 85 through Spartanburg is a good alternative route to avoid the work zone.
