VC Summer Nuclear Power Plant Back Online

Jenkinsville, SC (WLTX) -- The V.C. Summer Nuclear Power Plant has gone back online after repairs were made to a leaking relief valve.

The older nuclear reactor unit at the facility was shut down on Sunday, July 13th, after the discovery of a relief valve not functioning properly, causing a small water leak.

SCE&G notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the leak, and subsequent shutdown, even though the amount of water leaking was less than a standard level requiring a shutdown according to NRC standards.

Spokeswoman Rhonda O'Banion tells News 19 that the repairs to the valve, classified as standard maintenance work, were completed on July 23rd, and the reactor was brought back online, bringing V.C. Summer back to full operating power on July 28th.
