Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Folks in the Capital City are getting even more famously hot starting Tuesday, as Columbia's first-ever Style Week kicks off. It's a chance for you to get to know local and national designers.

"It is definitely my and all of our team members' intention for this to put Columbia on the map as a presence in the fashion community in the Southeast," says event director Alicia Zeigler.

Fashion icons adorn the walls surrounding Zeigler in her office, inspiring her as she puts the last minutes touches on the week that will rock the Capital City. "It's been very exciting, very fast-paced, very busy, definitely a learning experience. But we've had a great time so far," she says.

Columbia Style Week is bringing the fashion world here and showing off our local talent, and of course style, to them. "The Marriott Hotel downtown is our official hotel sponsor. And guests are booking rooms at the Marriott to come stay here from Charlotte, Charleston, Greenville, Augusta, coming to visit our fashion week, as well as the designers and retailers that we have coming from other cities and states," Zeigler says, "Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, we'll have the Beautiful People party, where we'll announce the winners of the 25 most stylish people in Columbia."

As the fashionistas descend on Columbia, it's not just that industry that reaps the rewards of the runway. Says Zeigler of what guests are doing,"Booking hotels, eating at our restaurants, and shopping at our retail establishments."

All pointing to a future where people want to wear what folks in Columbia are wearing. "It's year one," she says, "We hope to grow and get better and bigger every year. But we definitely hope that we'll be a recognizable presence in the fashion community for South Carolina."

News19's own fabulously stylish Lauren Talarico will be emceeing the kickoff party Tuesday, so you definitely want to check that out.

Tickets are on sale for all the events on Style Week's website. You can buy day passes, or passes for the whole week.
