NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's Grand Strand is getting a new public fishing pier.

It will be the ninth along the strand which is the heart of the state's $15 billion tourism industry.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/XHyZmd ) state regulators have already given their approval and North Myrtle Beach City Council on Monday gave the first of two needed votes of approval.

The pier planned by a local businessman would have a four-story building that likely would house a restaurant. It would be located in North Myrtle Beach not far from the Cherry Grove pier.

The new pier would be the first built on the Grand Strand in about 20 years.
