Irmo, SC (WLTX) - Subway has teamed up with a student at Dutch Fork High School to stop texting while driving in their "W8 2 Text" campaign.
"I'm going to come down here and talk to you guys," said Ashley Marriah, a student at Dutch Fork. "I just really believe I got a second chance to spread the word about not texting and driving."
Marriah was texting while driving and wrecked on June 26th of 2011.
Now, she's working with the Subway campaign to encourage students to keep their hands on the wheel.
"There is no text, no email that is so important that you can not wait to check it," said Ali Saifi, the owner of Subway franchises in South Carolina. "We just want to see a text free South Carolina."
The campaign asks students to sign a pledge saying they won't text and drive. The South Carolina Highway Patrol handed out bracelets saying 'W8 2 Text.'
"The biggest thing for me is I want to connect with people. I want to look in their eyes and let them know this is a big deal. I want them to see my scars and know I'm with you. I'm just like you," said Marriah.
