Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Around Richland County, there is a lot of talk about new businesses looking to move into the Capital City.
There are already some confirmed places that you used to only be in the Upstate or the Lowcountry.
Basil Thai Cuisine is joining the new Whole Foods anchored retail center.
"Almost everyweek we here a rumor....I hear this is going in this building," said Jake Broom with the City of Forest Acres.
Broom says Trader Joe's is a hot topic in their neighborhood.
"We've heard a lot of rumors about Trader Joe's and some other national chains looking aroound in Forest Acres. We know some folks have been looking around no one has committed to us.. but just the fact that people are looking around in forest acres is a good sign and a testiment to our local economy," said Broom.
Killians Crossing is another big development project in the works. Their website says it is a 400 acre retail, residential and commercial development project.
"For awhile all of the good news econmically have been upstate or in the low country but i think people are realizing the midlands has just as much to offer.. once a few come and they are successful it is just going to snowball and more larger businesses will see it is possible to succeed in Columbia so I think that will happen," said Broom.
