Orangeburg, SC (WLTX)- Saturday, SC State University announced that former assistant chief of police and major Kenneth "MAC" McCaster has been appointed to serve as interim police chief for the University.
McCaster, who served in his previous capacity at SC State University since April 2009, is familiar with law enforcement. In his role as assistant chief of police and major, McCaster oversaw all daily operations of the department, enforcing all policies and standards. He also served as the executive supervisor over all internal affairs investigations and worked as the department's training coordinator.
The news comes after several high-ranking members of South Carolina State University were let go on Friday, but for now, it's unclear why.
"McCaster is familiar with the mission and vision of the SC State University Police Department. He also knows what it takes to create a safe campus environment that is conducive to the SC State University family," says SC State University President, Dr. George E. Cooper. "I am confident that with the level of experience that McCaster has accumulated in the 10 plus years that he has been engaged in law enforcement, the transition in leadership will be seamless."
