Springfield, SC (WLTX) - A suspect chase that began in Orangeburg County--then weaved through two other counties--ended with the arrest of two people Friday night.

Springfield Police Chief Terry Logan says the situation began around 8 p.m. when a pickup truck didn't stop at a traffic safety checkpoint.

Logan says as officers pursued the truck, the people inside began throwing drugs out of the vehicle.

The pursuit crossed into Barnwell County, and then into Allendale. As the chase continued, other law enforcement agencies joined in the effort.

Officers lost the suspect vehicle for a time, but Bamberg County deputies spotted the vehicle a short time later and began chasing it for a second time.

The vehicle was stopped, but not before it caused damage to several patrol vehicles. After the truck came to rest, Logan says the suspects ran into a wooded area where they were tracked down by K-9 units.

Two suspects--one male, the other female--were taken into custody and booked at the Bamberg County Detention Center. Their names and the charges against them were not immediately available.
