Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The Sumter Police Department are investigating an armed robbery that occured around 10:30 Monday morning at Sumter Financial Services on Miller Road.
Police say three masked men, armed with handguns, entered the business demanding money.
Sumter Police Chief Russell Roark says just as the men were leaving the building with an undetermined amount of cash, an employee at the business shot one of the robbers in the rear pelvic area with a gun. The three men managed to get out of the business and leave the scene in a compact vehicle.
Law enforcement was later notified that a gunshot victim was dropped off at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. The vehicle he was dropped off in matched the description of the getaway car.
Sumter Police and Sumter Sheriff's deputies located the vehicle driving back towards Sumter on Highway 521.
Roark says a car chase ensued when the driver refused to stop. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed near the intersection of Boulevard Road and Plowden Mill Road.
According to officials, the two men in the vehicle were arrested and the suspect with the gunshot wound is still being treated at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
The names of the suspects have not yet ben released.
Police say more arrests could follow.
