Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Sabrina Brooks hosts a back to school bash every year in the Hickory Point Community in Columbia, but this year was special.
"I wanted to do something for the kids and I love children," said Sabrina Brooks.
For the past three years Sabrina Brooks has come back to the Hickory Point Community in Columbia to host a back to school bash.
"We started with a cookout and gave out paper and pens, so we turned it into a back to school bash and we do it every year," said Brooks.
Brooks lives in Irmo but wanted to give back to the community where she raised her children. Usually her husband plays a big role in the event but this year he isn't here.
"It's been hard but I get to talk with him and see him on Skype. It's been hard But he is coming home now so I am happy."
Her husband Richard has been in Kuwait for a year and she expects him to come home in a week. But little did she know, her husband came home early to surprise her.
This was brooks second tour overseas and he says it feels great to be home.
"This is probably the hardest thing I ever had to do because she is a wonderful woman and she loves me so much and kept me encouraged while I was gone and having faith in God did a lot to keep us together and we talked on the phone and kept things going," said Robert.
Sabrina said seeing her husband was a moment she will never forget.
"It was and I am glad to see my husband," said Sabrina.
Robert looks at his wife as a hero because she cares about giving back to the community.
"Her heart is really in the neighborhood for the kids and that is one of the reasons why I married her because she has a kind heart and helps folks out," said Robert.
"I am just glad he is home. It is all about the community and country and doing the right thing and keeping everyone happy."
