Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- What if you could watch the game with your friends who are in a different country?

A Sumter man has created an app that lets you do that.

The free iPhone football app called YellowFlag will let you stay connected with your friends through football in a virtual tailgating environment no matter where they are in the world.

Josh Peyton says he came up with the idea while he was serving time in the military overseas.

"The idea started about two years ago, I was on my third deployment in Iraq, and I was missing the camaraderie tailgates, just the football season in general.  So I wanted to create a product that could kind of recreate that excitement, that feeling of being together with your friends during the football season," said Peyton.

The app allows you to select your favorite college division one and NFL teams.  You can communicate with friends or fans who love your teams as well.  The app also gives fans gameday updates.

Peyton say he hopes the company can grow enough for him to begin hiring wounded warriors.

Since YellowFlag launched a week ago, they have had over 1,000 downloads

They are running a campus download challenge and will give a $1,000 scholarship for the university that has the most downloads between through December 1.  Right now South Carolina is in third place.
