Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a car wreck that occurred around 6:30am Saturday morning on Interstate 77 near mile marker 24.

According to Trooper Brent Kelly, 47-year old Santos Gomez of Hickory, NC was traveling southbound in I-77 but was in the northbound lane.

At the same time, officials say a 31-year old male victim from Columbia was traveling on I-77 northbound when he was struck head on by Gomez. The male victim was airlifted to Palmetto Richland Memorial. He is in critical condition.

Officials say Gomez was transported by EMS to Palmetto Richland. His condition is unknown.

Trooper Kelly says Gomez will be charged with felony DUI and open container.
