Teachers and administrators at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School had custom shirts printed for today's Rachel's Challenge
Lugoff, SC (WLTX) -- Across the country, thousands of school children are bullied, teased, and harassed every day. The students of Lugoff-Elgin Middle School are spreading the message about the problems of bullying by taking part in "Rachel's Challenge."
"Rachel's Challenge" is an organization that promotes a chain reaction of kindness, and is based upon the writings of Rachel Scott, the first victim of the Columbine shooting.
Rachel believed that we we could start a "chain reaction" simply by spreading kindness and compassion.
The students are trained on anti-bullying techniques...then add a physical link to a paper chain for every kind action. The idea is to spread that chain of kindness into the community.
The students will also sign their pledge on a Rachel's Challenge banner.
Organized by the Lugoff-Elgin PTO, two presentations are being offered for LEMS students, one during the school day, and a second that's open to the public at 6:30pm.
The students will then start a 'Friends of Rachel' (FOR) club in which they will continue to spread kindness and put an end to bullying.
