Columbia, SC (WLTX)- If you were stuck in traffic at the fairgrounds Wednesday night, you weren't the only one frustrated.
News19 received several calls and emails about the long lines and traffic surrounding the fairgrounds.
Nancy Smith with the South Carolina State Fair says over 37,000 people came to the fair on opening day, making it one of the biggest crowds in recent history.
"With good weather and dollar entry, people are trying to save some money and have some fun at the fair," Nancy said.
The fair parking lot closed down Wednesday night because it was filled to capacity but Smith noted there is other parking surrounding the fairgrounds. Many of the nearby lots charge $5 per car.
Smith says if you want to beat the crowds arrive early. Here is a list of some of the fun happening at the WLTX tent.
