Columbia, SC (WLTX) A traffic stop for an expired South Carolina tag has yielded an arrest for simple possession of marijuana and failure to pay child support.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said that deputies on routine patrol spotted a vehicle with expired South Carolina tags. During the traffic stop, Lott said that the deputies smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The driver, 32-year-old Travis Pickett, admitted to having marijuana in his possession and that he swallowed some of it as well. Deputies called EMS as a precaution to evaluate Pickett.
Along with the driver's arrest, the passenger, Eric Buckner, 23, was wanted on outstanding warrants for the Richland County Sheriff's department and the Columbia Police department for failure to pay child support.
Both men were transported to the Alvin S. Glenn detention center.
