Washington, DC (WLTX) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Dorel Juvenile Group are voluntary recalling about 97,000 sand Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets.
The CPSC says the bottom locking mechanism can fail to lock properly if a spring is not installed, allowing the bassinet to tip to one side and cause infants to roll to the side of the bassinet. This poses a suffocation hazard to infants.
Dorel has received 17 reports involving infants primarily younger than 3 months old; in two of them the infants were reported to have had breathing difficulties.
The bassinets were sold at Target, Toys R Us and Sears stores nationwide and online at Ebay and other websites between December 2007 and January 2011 for about $150.
Consumers are encouraged to immediately stop using the recalled bassinets and contact Dorel for a free repair kit, which includes a spring and new instructions for assembly. Contact the company toll-free at 877-416-0165 or go to their website and click on Safety Notices for more information.
