Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Over the past few years.... more and more people have decided to start their own businesses. For one Midlands couple, theirs is a coffee business and they did it with the help of Kickstarter.
"I just love it, you know coffee is my thing," said Beach Loveland.
Drinking coffee is a big part of some people's lives. For Beach Loveland providing a hot cup of "Joe" to the community is a passion.
"Loveland Coffee has been a work in progress and a goal of mine and my wife's for about 8 years now."
Loveland finally decided to step out on faith and start a drive-thru coffee shop.
"We have been in kind of a planning, saving, taking every opportunity to further along the business."
Starting a business from scratch isn't easy financially for most people so Loveland and his wife turned to Kickstarter.
"Kickstarter is a way for a small business or someone with an idea to say hey this is my idea, this is my vision for it and allows people in your community and around the nation to say we will back you."
Their goal was $8,000 they received more than $9,000 from people in the community. Of course Loveland was excited from the support.
"It was just jubilee, just so happy and a sign that we are on the right track."
People from as far away as Oregon and even in the UK donated money. Loveland says knowing that the community backed his business is the same reason why he created it.
"We really want to be about the community and build our business around the community that we live in. We are a family based business and really believe in a strong community."
The coffee is roasted locally here in the Midlands. Loveland says with the help from Kickstarter and the community his dreams actually came true.
"That was my big takeaway; step out on the dream and going after it.
