Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A Columbia Police cruiser got into a wreck with a Mazda SUV on Devine Street in Columbia midday Thursday.

The collision took place at 11:15 a.m. at the intersection of Devine and Kalmia Drive.

According to state troopers, the police cruiser and the SUV were both traveling east on Devine. Traffic was stopped for a post office truck delivering mail, and the SUV came to a stop.

Troopers say the officer's car struck the SUV in the rear. The police cruiser's airbag also appears to have possibly deployed in the wreck, as you can see in the attached photo.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt, but the officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Trooper Brent Kelly with the Highway Patrol says the officer will be cited for driving too fast for conditions.
