DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a 2-year-old boy is recovering after finding a stolen handgun in his Darlington home and shooting himself in the stomach.
Darlington County deputies say they found out about the shooting Monday after a hospital called and said they were treating a wounded toddler. Investigators say the boy had surgery and should recover.
Authorities say the boy's parents tried to hide the gun and shell casing before taking the toddler to the hospital.
Deputies say the boy's father, 19-year-old Marcus Lucas, and his mother, 20-year-old Adrien Jackson have been charged with unlawful neglect of a child, tampering with evidence and possession of stolen property. It wasn't known if they had attorneys.
