Police: Birthday Party Argument Leads to Fatal Shooting

Sumter, SC (WLTX) -- Sumter Police have arrested a man they shot to death a man Saturday.

Police say 26-year-old Denver Williams turned himself in around 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

Williams was a suspect for a shooting on Saturday at James Village Apartments that left 26-year-old Chauncey Mack dead.

Officials said the two were attending a birthday party when they got into an argument. The dispute moved from the apartment to the parking lot and then became a physical fight. Police said that's when Williams pulled out a gun and fired several shots into Mack's chest.

Mack later died at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Williams is charges with murder and is being held at Sumter Lee Regional Detention Center. Police said he may face additional charges related to the shooting.

Sumter Police said the investigation is ongoing and urge people to call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME SC if they have any information about the incident.
