Clarendon County, SC (WLTX) - A pharmaceutical company is building a new facility in Clarendon County, bringing nearly 300 jobs the region.
Spirit Pharmaceuticals announced Wednesday their intentions to build a new packaging and manufacturing facility in Summerton.
The $12.2 million investment is expected to create 296 new jobs.
"It's an exciting time for our company," said Spirit CEO Ajoy Joshi in a statement. "South Carolina offers us an excellent business climate, a talented workforce and the infrastructure we need to be successful. We appreciate all the support we've received from state and local officials."
Spirit makes generic pharmaceuticals for companies such as Walgreens, Dollar Tree, and CVS.
The company be located at the former Federal Mogul building located at 9104 Alex Harvin Highway. The new plant is expected to be operational in the first quarter of next year.
