Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police have arrested a suspect in connection with an apartment shooting that led to the injuring of a four-year-old girl.
Officers have taken 21-year-old Marcus Gantt into custody around 2 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Lansing Circle. He'll be charged with attempted murder, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Officers say Gantt intentionally shot at a Dodge Charger in an attempt to hit the people inside. Gantt is accused of running towards the vehicle while firing rounds at it. Police have said they think shots may have been fired from the vehicle as well.
During the exchange of gunfire, 4-year-old Zahara Walker was hit by a bullet. At the time, she was inside her home watching television. Police have not yet said if they believe if the bullet that struck Walker was fired by Gantt.
Police say Gantt is a suspected gang member, and officers believe the shooting is gang-related.
Officers continue to investigate the case, and anyone with more information should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
